Nav2 Visual Mastery (the App) is an educational Android application published by Academy4Tech (Academy4Tech, we, us, or our). This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled by the current release of the App.
The current release is designed as an offline-first learning experience. Lessons, simulations, quizzes, flashcards, glossary content, progress, bookmarks, achievements, the learner’s certificate display name, certificate records, and preferences work locally. The App does not currently provide an Academy4Tech account, an Academy4Tech cloud-sync service, a remote teacher portal, remote code execution, or a live connection to a physical robot. Features described in the product roadmap or user interface as optional adapters are not active data flows unless a later release expressly enables them and updates this policy.

1. Information stored and processed locally
The App may store the following information in app-private storage on the device:
- lesson completion and learning progress;
- quiz answers, correctness, and attempt history;
- flashcard review state and spaced-repetition scheduling;
- bookmarks and achievements;
- the certificate display name entered by the learner, which may be a name, initials, nickname, or a non-identifying label such as “Nav2 Learner”;
- an issued certificate’s identifier, printed name, local issue time, frozen performance score, and achievement grade;
- theme, contrast, reduced-motion, text-size, learner-level, language, sound, haptic, and selected age-group preferences; and
- text or configuration entered into an on-device learning exercise, if that feature is used.
Search terms, simulator inputs, code or YAML exercise text, the certificate display name, and certificate metadata are intended to be processed locally. The current App does not send these records to an Academy4Tech server, does not send the display name to AdMob or UMP, and does not execute arbitrary user code on a remote service. Certificate personalization does not call an online or generative-AI service; the visual background is bundled static artwork.
Local information normally remains until it is replaced or deleted through ordinary App use, cleared through Android system settings, or removed by uninstalling the App. Uninstalling may not immediately remove a copy already held by Android’s backup service, as described below.
2. Android backup and device transfer
The App participates in Android’s backup and restore framework. Its current backup allowlist includes the Room database, Android shared-preference files, and the App’s selected Preferences DataStore file. The DataStore file includes the user’s certificate display name, certificate identifier, printed name, issue time, score and grade, selected age group, and interface, accessibility, learning-level, language, sound, and haptic settings. Depending on device manufacturer, Android version, Google account, and the user’s backup settings, Android may copy eligible information to the user’s private Google Drive backup area or transfer it directly to another device. This can preserve progress, certificate metadata, and settings after a reinstall or device change. A certificate PDF is generated in the App’s cache only when requested and is not included by the App’s explicit backup allowlist.
Academy4Tech does not operate this backup service and cannot read or delete the user’s private Android backup. Google handles backup data under its own terms and privacy policy. Users can manage device backup in Android settings. More information is available in Google’s Android backup documentation and Google Privacy Policy.
3. Advertising and automatically transmitted data
The App uses the Google Mobile Ads SDK to request and render a compact AdMob Native Advanced advertisement. The App labels the unit as sponsored advertising, and Google’s SDK supplies an AdChoices overlay. According to Google’s current SDK disclosure, the Mobile Ads SDK may automatically collect and share:
- the device’s Internet Protocol (IP) address, which may be used to infer approximate location;
- product interactions, such as app launches, taps, and ad or video interactions;
- diagnostic and performance information, such as launch time, hang rate, and energy use; and
- device or account-related identifiers, including the Android advertising ID, App Set ID, and other applicable identifiers.
Google’s SDK disclosure lists advertising or marketing, analytics, and fraud prevention, security, and compliance as purposes across the disclosed data categories, and states that Mobile Ads SDK data is encrypted in transit using TLS. The purpose varies by identifier and configuration: Google Play policy restricts App Set ID to essential non-ad uses such as analytics and fraud prevention and prohibits using it for ads personalization or measurement. Google may provide Academy4Tech with aggregated advertising reports, such as impressions and performance, rather than the App’s local learning records.
Advertising data is handled by Google under the Google Privacy Policy, Google’s explanation of how it uses information from sites or apps that use its services, and applicable Google advertising terms. The disclosure for the legacy Android SDK used by this release is available at Google Play data disclosure, and identifier restrictions are described in the Google Play User Data policy.
Hiding the native ad removes it for the current App session. The choice survives ordinary Activity recreation such as screen rotation, but is not stored as a durable preference and resets on a fresh App launch. A later ad request remains subject to applicable consent and privacy choices. Hiding cannot undo information already transmitted when a consent or ad request was made.
4. Advertising consent and privacy choices
Before UMP or Mobile Ads starts, the App asks the user to select one of three broad age groups: Under 13, 13–17, or 18+. It does not ask for a date of birth and does not create an Academy4Tech account-linked age profile. Separately, the App asks for a freely chosen certificate display name, which may be a name, initials, nickname, or “Nav2 Learner.” The display name is used only for the local profile and certificate, is not sent to Google for advertising or consent, can be edited in Settings, and is eligible for Android backup as described above. The selected age band is also stored in the App’s local Preferences DataStore and can be changed in Settings.
The App sends Google derived privacy and advertising-treatment signals based on that choice, rather than a date of birth:
| Selected age group | UMP under-age signal | Mobile Ads age treatment | Maximum ad content rating |
|---|---|---|---|
| Under 13 | Under age of consent | Child | General audiences (G) |
| 13–17 | Under age of consent | Teen | General audiences (G) |
| 18+ | Not under age of consent | Unspecified (adult-selected path) | General audiences (G) |
Google states in its Mobile Ads age-treatment documentation that Child and Teen treatments disable personalized ads and remarketing. Child treatment also disables third-party ad-vendor requests and prevents Mobile Ads from transmitting the Android advertising identifier in the ad request. These controls do not prevent every form of device or diagnostic data described above.
The App then uses Google’s User Messaging Platform to request updated consent information and show a privacy message where required. Depending on region, the configured age treatment, and the user’s choices, Google may serve personalized ads, non-personalized ads, limited ads, or no ad. Google’s UMP consent flow is not a substitute for legally required age verification or parental consent.
Where required, the App provides a Privacy choices entry point so the user can revisit or withdraw advertising choices. Users may also manage or delete the Android advertising ID in Android settings and may use regional choices presented by Google’s consent platform. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that occurred before withdrawal.
Academy4Tech does not attempt to replace legally required consent with the native unit’s Hide ad control. Hiding an ad and changing advertising privacy choices are separate actions.
5. External links and user-directed sharing
Lessons and the About area may contain user-initiated links to documentation and third-party sites, including ROS 2/Nav2 documentation and Academy4Tech’s website, LinkedIn, GitHub, and YouTube pages. These links normally open the device browser or an external app. The destination operator may receive information such as the IP address and browser or app identifiers under its own privacy policy. Academy4Tech is not responsible for third-party privacy practices.
The App does not automatically transmit local quiz answers, bookmarks, exercise text, or progress merely because a lesson contains a source link.
The App also offers user-initiated controls to export a generated capstone report as text and a personalized course-completion certificate as a PDF through Android’s share interface. A capstone report can include notes entered by the user. The certificate PDF includes the chosen display name, local issue date, performance score, achievement grade, and certificate identifier. The PDF is rendered locally into the App’s cache and exposed only to the destination selected by the user through a temporary Android read grant. Academy4Tech does not automatically receive a copy. The selected recipient handles exported information under its own privacy practices. Users should review generated content and remove or avoid personal, confidential, production, or safety-critical information before sharing it.
6. Permissions and device access
The current release directly requests Internet and network-state access for advertising and consent messages. User-initiated links are handed to the device’s browser or another external app, which uses its own network access. The Google Mobile Ads dependency also contributes advertising-related permissions to the merged application manifest, including the normal Android AD_ID permission and Android AdServices permissions where supported.
The current release does not require Android location, camera, microphone, contacts, phone, SMS, call-log, or broad photo/video-library permission. Approximate location described in this policy is inferred by Google from an IP address; it is not obtained through Android location permission.
If a later release adds AR, camera exercises, voice features, cloud services, file uploads, analytics, or physical-robot connectivity, it will request only the access needed for that feature and this policy and the Google Play Data safety declaration must be updated before release.
7. How information is used
Information is used to:
- provide and preserve the local learning experience;
- personalize and issue a local, performance-based course-completion certificate;
- restore eligible progress or settings through Android’s user-controlled backup framework;
- remember App and privacy preferences;
- apply the selected age-appropriate advertising and consent treatment and a general-audience ad-content limit;
- request, deliver, measure, and protect advertising;
- comply with legal and platform obligations; and
- diagnose advertising SDK reliability and prevent invalid advertising activity.
8. How information is shared
Academy4Tech does not transmit the App’s local learning records to an Academy4Tech application backend in the current release. Information may nevertheless be processed by:
- Google, for AdMob, UMP consent messages, derived age-treatment signals, advertising measurement, fraud prevention, and Android backup or device transfer;
- a destination website or app, when the user chooses an external link or a recipient through Android’s share interface; and
- authorities or other parties where legally required, or where reasonably necessary to protect users, Academy4Tech, or the public.
We do not directly sell the App’s locally stored learning records. Advertising-related processing may qualify as a “sale,” “sharing,” or targeted advertising under some regional laws; where applicable, use the App’s Privacy choices interface or contact us.
9. Retention and deletion
- Local App data: learning records, certificate display name and certificate metadata, settings, and the selected age group are retained on the device until they are replaced or deleted through ordinary App use, Android storage is cleared, or the App is uninstalled. Generated certificate PDFs are temporary cache files and may remain until Android or the App clears its cache, storage is cleared, or the App is uninstalled.
- Android backups: retained and deleted according to the user’s Android or Google backup settings and Google’s retention practices. Academy4Tech cannot access the private backup.
- Advertising and consent data: retained by Google according to Google’s policies, the user’s choices, and applicable law. Academy4Tech may retain aggregated AdMob business records as needed for accounting, security, and legal compliance.
- Privacy inquiries: correspondence sent to Academy4Tech may be retained for as long as reasonably necessary to answer the request and document compliance.
The current App does not create an Academy4Tech user account, so there is no App account to delete. Users can remove all local App data through Android Settings > Apps > Nav2 Visual Mastery > Storage > Clear storage, or by uninstalling the App. Individual content may also be removable through controls the App makes available. Users can manage their advertising ID and Android backup separately in device settings.
To ask about information controlled by Academy4Tech, contact us using the details below. We may need enough information to understand and verify a request, but we will not ask for unnecessary sensitive information.
10. Security
Local learning, profile, and certificate data is protected by Android’s application sandbox. Certificate PDFs are shared through a non-exported Android FileProvider using a temporary read grant for the user-selected destination. The App disables cleartext network traffic for its own network configuration, and Google states that Mobile Ads SDK data is encrypted in transit using TLS. Android backup and a selected share destination have their own security controls and practices.
No storage or transmission method is completely secure. Users should avoid entering personal, confidential, production, or safety-critical robot information into educational exercises.
11. Children and students
The current App is a technical ROS 2 robotics learning tool whose release materials are intended for learners aged 16 and older and are not directed to children. The neutral age-group selector nevertheless includes Under 13 and 13–17 options so an unexpected younger user is not treated as an adult: those selections apply Google’s child or teen treatment, an under-age UMP signal, and a general-audience ad-content limit. The certificate field does not require a legal name; learners may use initials, a nickname, or “Nav2 Learner,” and the value stays local except for Android backup or a share action the learner chooses. The App does not request a date of birth, email address, precise location, photo, voice, contacts, or school identifier.
This protective setting does not replace any parental-consent, age-assurance, or other requirement imposed by local law. If we learn that information from a child was handled contrary to applicable law, contact us so that we can investigate and take appropriate action. Any release intentionally directed to children must also satisfy Google Play Families requirements and applicable child-privacy law.
12. International and regional rights
Privacy rights differ by location and may include access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, or withdrawal of consent. Much of the App’s learning data is under the user’s direct control because it remains locally stored. For advertising choices, use the Privacy choices interface and Android or Google controls. For a request concerning information controlled by Academy4Tech, contact us.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when the App, SDKs, laws, or data practices change. We will revise the effective or last-updated date and make the current policy available in the App and at the public privacy-policy URL supplied in Google Play. Material new data flows will be disclosed before or when they are introduced, as required.
